Dry Needling

What is dry needling?

Dry needling is a treatment option for musculoskeletal pain, such as trigger points, chronic muscle pain, fibromyalgia and connective tissue pain. It is mainly used for those chronic pains that just won't go away.

Dry needling is NOT acupuncture; however, the needles are the same.  Acupuncture is based on Eastern medicine, while dry needling is rooted in Western medicine.  Dry needling will focus on a specific group of muscle or entrapment sites to help reduce pain.

How is dry needling performed?

Dry needling is a skilled intervention that uses a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate the underlying trigger points or connective tissue. the treatment is done in office and is non painful. Treatment time is around 15-20 minutes.

What are some of the conditions that can be treated with dry needling?

This list is quite large but some of the more common problems would be: chronic neck or low back pain, fibromyalgia, tension headaches, trigger points or chronic muscle pain, peripheral nerve entrapments such as carpel tunnel syndrome and piriformis syndrome.
